I had only previously seen the Duck Pond when it was full of water. Like some other ponds in this little wood, this one is seasonal and dries out during the summer months so I was keen to return when the water had gone. Ideally, I'd like to see it during the transitional phase but a lot of factors meant a summer visit was out of the question. So I returned in early autumn and found these two trees which seem to mirror one another in root systems and shape.
