As soon as I spotted this young larch and its smaller companion, I saw the potential of the scene. But how to compose an image? Luckily, close to where I had set up the camera was a rocky ledge, covered in attractive lichens. I moved the tripod, re-composed and ended up making my favourite image of the year. As I was setting up, it started snowing. Not one to let a bit of bad weather spoil a good composition, I carried on working regardless...
