I was hiking along the well-trodden path towards the Morteratsch Glacier when I decided, on a whim, to head 'off-piste'. After wading through deep snow wearing standard hiking boots on what turned out to be a snowshoe trail for what seemed like ages, I suddenly saw this scene with yellow larches gently melting into copper-coloured beeches by the Morteratsch river.
