Ochre mine
Provence is justifiably famous for its deposits of ochre - the multi-hued sandstone prized as a pigment by artists. The colours in the rock and presence of harder 'capstones' do bring the grand sandstone desert vistas of Utah and Arizona to mind although on a much smaller scale and with many more visitors.
