Ravin du Puits Noir
This little gorge was often visited and painted by the French artist and forerunner of the Impressionists, Gustave Courbet (1819-1877), and remains virtually unchanged since his day.

I visited it on a damp day in early April before it had shed its forbidding winter appearance. I wanted to emphasise the stark beauty of the location.
